Support The CBC

It looks like Sun Media is on an embarrassingly baseless ideological crusade against the CBC. Rarely have I seen a supposed journalist distort, pushing storylines without the most basic of fair representation. Of course, the CBC deserves scrutiny, but this latest attack is so clearly much more than an instructive investigation, it's a crude, shoddy hit job, pure and simple.

If you support the CBC, you can never be complacent, because its enemies are tireless and driven. With that in mind, take a second to sign this petition and pass it along if so inclined.

While not a huge fan of CBC television, I'll sign the petition for my love of CBC Radio.

Done and shared. CBC is kind of Lite these days, but we could still rebuild it!

Not a blanket endorsement, but I still see value.

Done and a am a huge fan of CBC. One only has to watch the passion eye to respect their investigative Journalism and their respectability. I do not care to much for some of their people especially on P&P such as Evan while Rosemary is okay if she would cut out that irritable giggling stuff but she does do a better job than Evan.

Kim, I really don't think we have to rebuild it. CBC is not near as partisan as the other Medias such as CTV, Global to name a few.I watch CBC regularly for the news and weather reports

I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year with your families and friends.

Are you kidding me?

Seriously…if/when the CBC gets back to its roots then I will support it. But right now, they not only get FUNDED by the Canadian Tax payer, they also unfairly sell advertising. No other private broadcaster gets funding, they rely soley on advertising revenues.

Remove the unfair practices, and they will have my support.

No, but that response was an illogical joke :)

No kidding. Must be getting cold back home, brain freeze seems to be setting in.

Two things: One the Conservatives are laying the foundation for privatizing the CBC. That is what all those programming changes, especially on CBC radio amount to. If the CBC programming becomes indistinguishable from the rest, and bit by bit that is increasingly the case, it loses its Raison d'ĂȘtre. Two, the CBC needs a new mandate. The CBC main responsibility has been the promotion of Canadian culture. However, such a mandate is hopelessly ill defined and in a time of cuts likely to be sacrificed in the name of better viewing numbers. Wheel of fortune anyone? The CBC, CBC TV anyway, needs to be transformed from being first and foremost a cultural institutional to being first and foremost a news organization -- and one that does not rely on advertising dollars. The need for such an institution has never been greater. News departments everywhere are being gutted, the line between news and entertainment is being blurred, media concentration continues unabated and willingness and ability of news departments to dig up dirt on multinationals has lessened.

Agreed!

I disagree. News is important, and the CBC is one of the only decent mainstream options left, but cultural programming matters. The BBC and PBS put out fantastic stuff that can't survive in the market because people would rather watch The Biggest Loser. I don't doubt that the CBC could do the same thing given the right productions and talent budget. The same goes for CBC radio.

I think you can do both, because you have two separate entities.
