Overkill

Hezbollah leader Nasrallah offered a ceasefire today:
"You attack our cities, villages, civilians and our capital. We will react. Anytime you decide to stop your campaign against our cities, villages, civilians and infrastructure, we will not fire rockets on any Israeli settlement or city," Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said in a taped television speech.

Nasrallah also threatened to attack Tel Aviv:
"If you bomb our capital Beirut, we will bomb the capital of your usurping entity... We will bomb Tel Aviv," he said in a taped televised speech.

The bizarre Israeli response:
"If Tel Aviv is attacked, Lebanese national infrastructure will be destroyed," the state-owned television station said, quoting a senior military source.

As opposed to current policy of not targeting Lebanese infastructure? Are the Israeli's threatening to go back and bomb all the roads and bridges, water and gas, transportation and electricity areas again? Maybe they can make bigger craters with subsequent strikes.

This map shows the massive destruction of the Lebanese infastructure:

I listened to a senior military correspondent today that visited southern Lebanon. He described the devastation as unimaginable, on a scale rarely see in any previous theatre. Israel's threats are almost laughable, Lebanon has already been set back 20 years. Threatening the infastructure is hardly a deterrent, it's already gone.

I have the map of airstrikes updated to July 30th as well posted...

I had no idea the strieks were as widespread as that. Brutal. How are civilians supposed to get away when all of the bridges, roads and everything is destroyed?

Remember when Israel justified the strikes, saying they dropped leaflets warning civilians to leave? At the same time they were dropping bombs on all the escape routes. Amazing.

I don't know why Isreal does not call Nasrallah's bluff - either they will stop, which is good, or they will continue, which is the status quo. The former will hopefully end this campaign and the latter will show that Hezbollah is not to be trusted and give some modicom of backing to Isreals actions...

They cannot lose.

I don't think Israel wants to stop, yet.

I am sorry to report that Canada is the last country to stand without reservation with Israel's right to defend itself.
