Liberals Will Not Support Economic Package!

It will be a matter of confidence, and the Liberals will not support the economic update.

You just might have bitten off more than you can chew this time tough guys. Apparently, opposition members are "openly" talking about a coalition government. Fascinating days ahead.

  1. Wow, but I think the CPC will back down.

Where did you hear this Steve?

  3. The newscasts are reporting it, the NDP will also vote against.

  4. So does this mean a possible coalition govt.? If the GG goes that way?

  5. Very interesting. And very good.

  7. I never thought I could feel such hatred towards anyone but my gut is in a knot every time I see/hear Harper, Flaherty, Baird & quite a few others. It's visceral.

    You stooges botched this one!!

  10. When is the vote to take place? It will take some time for the three parties to put together a convincing package for the GG. Without a real leader, the Libs will have trouble throwing their weight around and fending off unreasonable demands from the Bloc and NDP. Maybe Dion might get a second chance as the Great Uniter! Green Shift! Green Shift!

  14. Prime Minister Layton? That is a bit of a worry. He's the only option, (besides Dion), yet if he is given the role he will fortify the NDP's credibility with voters... Toughest thing to fight in an election will be not one, but 2 former PMs...

  15. Make the deal, but keep it quiet until the vote. Keep them in suspense...

  17. A more likely scenario is that the vote will be boycotted by all opposition members from all parties.

    >> The hon. Stephane dion: We will vote against this plan.
    >> Question: Have you talked about coalition with the other opposition parties?
    >> The hon. Stephane dion: The option now is for the prime minister, is for him to look at his options because we have been very responsible as an official opposition. As you know, we are supporting the throne speech. We want this parliament to work. Mr. Harper told me that he didn't want to have a confrontational process. He wanted to have this parliament working because we are in economic tough times and we need political stability. But why then he came with this plan that is clearly a plan to hide the deficit and not to boost the economy?

  20. Harper is going to back down.

  21. Steve Harper has essentially resigned, blowing smoke and hot air like he always does. That's what this is. He figures being in opposition is better for the next little while.

I'm leaving that one up, because it's just so DELUSIONAL, it's priceless.

  25. Serioulsy....really dumb anon.

I hope other governments (cough ahem McGuinty cough snort) learn from this no matter what happens:
There's a limit to how much you can play politics during tough times.

If the Cons fall, this should forever be remembered as "The Raw Deal".

  26. The conservatives are hiding a deficit of at least $6 - $10 billion in 2009/2010....that is a fact ...the cons are being dishonest about this. Bring it on...they are playing with the numbers.

  27. Let us just hope that the opposition parties, and in particular the Liberals, do not back down on this. Can't wait to hear Harper again blame the opposition for making Parliament dysfunctional.

  28. There are going to be some surprises next week. It should get interesting.

  29. Well maybe I really got proven wrong here. Maybe those deficit questions/criticisms were the catalyst that made the gov foolishly announce 5 balanced budgets. Sorry Bob.

  30. Flaherty is doing an "Ontario", he's not admitting a deficit, and the projections are completely out of whack, a full percentage difference from private forecasts.

  31. The BLOC have also said they won't support it.

Could the opposition parties possibly have a committee hearing and have the Aud Gen, Sheila Fraser be questioned?

    Just curious.

  32. The BLOC have also said they won't support it.

    Wow. What a surprise.

They'd be just thrilled to be part of a coalition government! Canadians, not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Mobius - you only need the LPC and the NDP to form the coalition.

The Bloc said before they would not join a coalition. They might, however, indicate a willingness to support a coalition.

  34. The Bloc said before they would not join a coalition. They might, however, indicate a willingness to support a coalition.

    And the difference is, what?

They'll sign an agreement to uphold a super-minority situation, but not ask for anything in return?

The fact that the "coalition" will not allow them any cabinet seats is an indication of how embarrassing this will become.
