Liberal MP Calls For "Election"

On a similar theme to my last post, Liberal MP Glen Pearson with a blistering denunciation of Parliament, calling for an "election" to fix the "sick, likely diseased" situation:
This Parliament is sick and there really is only one route to potential healing: an election. But naturally the Conservatives know that while Canadians bemoan our behaviour in Parliament, they don’t want to be bothered with going to the polls. Well, it’s perhaps time to get agitated. This is your Parliament and it’s busted. If the Harper government refuses any form of correction, even from the Speaker, then it stands to reason the institution can’t rise to your defence when you need it. After 10 months we never left the starting line. And we never will until either the government atones for its mistakes, or the good people of Canada say “enough.”

And, he might be right...

That is a position that would be shared by the NDP.

They have routinely voted against government bills.

They sure did vote agaist the govrnment, until they had to vote with the government in order to avoid an election.

Not to mention, that bill c-391; unless the NDP has changed its' mind on that one.

NDP has had its' own share of propping up the Cons when it came time for them to oust the Paul Martin Gov't.

Not to mention, they have proven that they would get into bed with Harpercons; just read that letter from STeve in 2004.

And of course, they snipe at the Liberals as often as they snipe at Harpercons.

Given many of Harpercon bills are those insidious tough on crime bills; I'm glad they're not passed.

I made a post a little while ago saying we should try to force an election. Enough is enough already. The polls are basically stalled ... for months. Force an election and out campaign him, and I know Ignatieff can do just that.

It's time.

It's time to take the dictator out. I hope Ignatieff has a second radio spot explaining the contempt of Parliament.

Backdrop of pepper spraying by paid security/mercenaries is a great way to start an election.

$1B+ and no new major announcements.

It's time to take the dictator out.

Do it now. Harper will be calling one later in the fall anyhow before the AG's report ...don't let him get a bump from vacationing from government. Force it while he's still in the 31-32% area. That's his base and the numbers won't get any lower (unless a full fledged scandal erupts).

Now's as good a time as any, let's take it to the people! As I wrote in my post that I mentioned above, I think we can pull off more seats than Harper but worst case scenario we form a coalition with the NDP and rid this nation of this dark regime. Let's go for it!

I think the Iggster is feeling a lot of pressure to "go" right now. It is the one sure-fire way to capitalize on the publicity. It's a good issue (government excess and waste) which always resonates with Canadians.

Our numbers are typical for an opposition party, and Harper's are kinda low for an incumbent. He has also not made any gains over 5 years, which shows how flat his support is. That shows there is a pretty clear line as to the number of voters who can stomach the Conserva-crap Alliance. More voters want them gone. The Liberals need to find the "silver bullet" that will bring this beast down... a formula that will increase votes in Quebec, Atlantic, Urban/suburban Ontario, and BC. Quebec votes are critical, as are the BC votes.

The opposition parties were all naive to believe that the Tories would ever show the documents. It was all a stall tactic until the summer. Then, as traditionally happens, the government polls will go up during the summer and Harper will call an election before parliament reconvenes. He plays the opposition like a bunch of willing fools and they buy it over and over. By all means have an election but none of the opposition parties deserve to win.

The spanner in the works: what if Harper does call an election and gets another minority? Then what happens with the documents etc.?

Are you taking odds. Iggy sounded desperate in question period to get a deal done. Campaigning when you can't tell your friends from your enemies will not be fun.I dont see how the Libs can get more than 25% in an election. The cons will have a 2 week headstart as the libs are no where near ready.Id give you 5 to one no election till fall.

Ya, he sounded so desperate they chose to lead with the detainee question. Good grief. I'll give you ten to one I can take you with my right brain tied behind my back.

Started with detainee's by asking if we can please get the deal done? or else. Maybe what the Govt is offering meets the speakers criteria maybe he will have to rule on the agreement. i guess that would be fine. Either way there will not be an election on this issue unti PMSH decides he is reay for an election.

If the Libs were trying to downplay, you don't huddle in the OLO and decide to LEAD with a detainee question by your leader. Hello in there.
