American President Obama:
"The people of Egypt have spoken, their voices have been heard and Egypt will never be the same."
German chancellor Merkel said:
"Today is a day of great joy. We are all witness to an historic change. I share the joy of the people of Egypt."
British PM Cameron:
"Egypt now has a really precious moment of opportunity to have a government that can bring the country together."
French PM Sarkozy:
"Hopes Egypt finds the path of democracy and not the path of another form of dictatorship, religious dictatorship."
Canadian PM Harper:
"They're not going to put the toothpaste back in the tube on this one."
So proud!
And yet we see the poll numbers you cite in your previous post. What the fuck is wrong with so many Canadians? Why do so many embrace this 'thick as a plank' style of governance? I'm so, so tired of not getting it. Pride in country? That went straight out the window in 2006. I need Ottlib to show up to make me feel better ;-)
ReplyDelete2/3rds of us have it right :)
ReplyDeleteThen in my very best Mel Gibson doing William Wallace voice I say, "Unite us! Unite the clans." I want a united Liberal and NDP. I want the Green Party as our viable third party option. Both the Liberals and New Democrats have served this country honorably, but it's way past time to set aside competing ideologies and political fiefdoms. Do what is in the best interest of the "2/3rds of us who have it right". Stephen Harper is ruining the country. What more motivation do they need then that?

Problem is that 2/3rds are split up between 4 different parties.
I know, I know. And if you take it down to three I suppose you have to factor in the dissatisfied right-leaning Liberals would not support a Lib Dem party and defect to the Conservatives. Oh well, back to the drawing board :)
ReplyDeleteI got goosebumps reading Mr. Harper's comments.
ReplyDeleteThere should never be an IF >> or BUT.. when dealing with Cons Budget.. just vote it down at any circumstances!!
ReplyDeleteNO DEALS at any kind..with them.
Hahaha .. The RH Pottery is ME DAME ...
ReplyDeleteaccidentally I was with my other Gmail account...
Ha!
ReplyDeleteWell, Harper has done it again; he is to the right of America.
ReplyDeleteHarper's 1st love, Israel, right or wrong.
CK - I beg to differ, Harper's first love is Harper (right or wrong). Israel is second.
ReplyDeleteSteve,
ReplyDeleteI see that you deleted my post. Is it because it doesn't fit your narrative?
You posted the after the fact, edited PMO release. You posted propaganda, that DELETED my quote. Ironic?
ReplyDeleteBet you didn't even know they touched up his presser for the release did ya? Sheep.
nope.
ReplyDeleteI never followed the chronology yesterday.
That is actually quite interesting. Do you have a before and after shot?
He had presser, made a bunch of comments, then later PMO released parts of, minus my money quote.
ReplyDeleteCanadian PM Harper:
ReplyDelete"They're not going to put the toothpaste back in the tube on this one."
So proud!
You should be.
(well, except for deleting the context in Prime Minister Harper's quote and not the others. That's pretty lame...)
His comment is the only one that doesn't look like it was written by a PR department.

ReplyDeleteWhat the hell does that even mean??? People can't talk about something without using toothpaste metaphors?
In a very short time it will become evident that the only statement by a world leader that made any sense was the one made by PM Harper. Already events are unfolding that show the wisdom of what he said. The military did not want Mubarak's son to succeed Mubarak and allowed just enough riots in the streets to look like heroes when they deposed Mubarak. The military then took over all the democratic institutions and drove the remaining protesters from the square. In short order there will be a power struggle between the military and its only opposition. the Muslim Brotherhood. So either Egypt remains a secular military state or it becomes a radical Muslim republic. Unfortunately there is no going back or as PM Harper said, "You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube". Hang on this is going to get really interesting really quickly.

Would you prefer "put the genie back into the bottle"? "Put the horse back into the barn"? Or would you just prefer that the Prime Minister not attempt to answer questions from reporters (live) and instead let his speech writers put something together for him to simply read off a teleprompter?
There was much more diplomatic rhetoric used by the PM both before and after the toothpaste remark. I could post it if you like, but it would only serve to illustrate yet another blatant attempt to embarrass Stephen Harper by the usual crowd.
