If they are as good as they say they are then they will have no difficulty if they are cut off from the taxpayer's teat. At those ratings advertisers will be lined up with cheque books in hand.

Joe, I believe you miss the point of a public broadcaster. It needs to be independent from the influence of advertisers and needs to be funded with recurring funding, not subject to the whims of parliament either.
Do you think that CTV and Sun have unbiased reporting as a result of their concerns for pissing off big-name advertisers...nope...they tread carefully on the big stories. At least we have CBC who can investigate.
Its (my) money well spent....

what does it matter in a Harper majority, 80% of the media is conservative owned. They want it gutted, because they want to control the entire message. No democratic or liberal voices allowed, except as pets, like the Star, also owned by a con chain, but great revenue stream.
The 37% solution is to kill liberal democracy, never mind what the majority want.

Those numbers explain very eloquently why the SUN has declared war on the CBC.

And it's an article of faith among red-blooded Canadian neo-cons everywhere that the CBC is an instrument of the liberal devil, one you must never, ever watch, listen to or in any way support. (Except, of course, for Coach's Corner, when Don Cherry gets to rail against pinkos and pukes. That's OK.)

A billion dollars that covers the second largest country on earth, provides English and French tv networks, coverage in the north in a dozen languages, 2 english radio networks, 2 french radio networks plus online radio and video. On top of that it actually airs canadian shows (wtf is that CTV Global Citytv says) That is what your "Billion" pays for which has not increased in 20 years (inflation people! 2nd lowest investment in public tv 2nd largest country in world does not add up!). BTW Your tax dollars do go to private broadcasters to create those "filler" canadian tv shows...kinda funny how no one bitches about the hundreds of millions that goes to for profit networks.

Why the inclusion of the American CNN? What about Global? That's Canadian. It's hardly a pat on the back when you get a financial advantage from the Canadian tax payer. Why do they only compare themselves to 3 other networks?

...and news flash....no media is immue from bias. I think most Canadians are intelligent enough to know this and can choose for themselves. We shouldn't have our tax money wasted on the crap the CBC puts out.

News Flash!!!For a teacher way way up, you have no idea what you speak of. I am very happy that I do not have children in public schools anymore.Especially in your school.

Stick to teaching the children the basics fundamentals of education and not pressing your ideolical beliefs on them. Thank goodness, my grandchildren are in University and have learned the ability to reason out on their own beliefs and not likely listen to such stupidity from their teachers.

You likely have lost your ability to use a little common sense instead of using your partisan worshipping of a cult leader who is hell bent on destroying the country we all love and cherish.

I am content to Live in Canada and have no dsire of following Harper in destroying our Canada in trying to rule us like the USA Bush government who brought their country in the dire straights they find themselves in today. Be very careful what you wish for. You may find yourself in the same situation that is affecting most normal Canadians in these Harper days.He is ruling like a dictator and in my view, committing an act of treason and we all know what the consequences are to commit treason to our country. Common sense of most Canadians will prevail and its a matter of time before citizens wake up and figure that out by themselves.
