This Is Your Government Canada

The call for decorum will not stand:
"The Scene. The Conservatives have identified a loophole in the Speaker’s recent ruling against the use of Parliament’s time to launch personal attacks against political rivals—namely that it’s not a personal attack if you don’t immediately identify the individual you are defaming.

So it was that Mike Wallace, another of the government’s enthusiastically obedient, if relatively interchangeable, backbenchers, was sent up before Question Period to air various allegations against “someone.” Only at the final moment did he reveal that this “someone” was, in fact, the Liberal leader. Suffice it to say, the Prime Minister found this quite hilarious."

The sad part, NOBODY watches Member Statements, and yet the Conservatives are determined to get their smears in, as though important. When one thinks of the mental energy wasted, trying to find ways around the idea of decency and standards, it really is a statement on what a bunch of low class operatives run our government.

  2. I try to watch the Members Statements to see who disregards the Speaker's ruling. From what I've seen, the last "statement" slams Ignatieff.

Wallace's comments today were no different from what I've heard before.

Since the Cons can't behave responsibly, their Member Statements should have to submitted to the Speaker for prior approval until such time that they conduct themselves properly.

  3. Milliken actually looked disgusted as he rose after Wallace's comment.

Seriously, it's like watching a grade 4 class waiting for the trouble makers to start acting up.

I suspect the 'someone' comments will be shut down soon.

  4. Andrew, aside from those of us who saw it, here is a source.

  5. I watched Members' Statements today just to see what went down.

Wallace was pathetic. He rushed the thing, we all knew where it was going. A joke.

Let them waste their time with this stuff. Iggy wasn't bothered at all.

I saw Del Masrto (sp?) yapping on Duffy's old slot. Useless.

The talent pool is so thin with this government. It becomes more apparent the more desperate they become.

  6. The Con caucus are taking a hell of a long time to get through puberty aren't they? Talk about junior high school level of maturity.

  7. What's mind boggling- do these guys actually think it's some kind of psychological tactic to rattle the Liberals? All it does is make Parliament look pathetic, serves no practical purpose, which is why their devotion to school yard nothingness is just bizarre.

Especially considering they have so little to spare...

I'm sure you've noted, how hard it is for these guys to read their prepared text, when they make the attacks. Sometimes it's actually painful to watch.

  10. I'm so very proud of my MP, this must be only the third time he's spoken in the House, what a big boy! Think I'll drop a line to the Burlington Post to commend Mike on his creativity.
