The 29 NDP MPs spent Monday evening door knocking in the riding of Outremont, where some observers have said the by-election taking place there is turning into a race between the Liberals and the NDP.
“The reaction of seeing so many NDPers in the streets was very positive,” said Mr. Layton.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this might be the first time an entire national caucus has canvassed in a by-election. I have to hand to Layton and the NDP strategists, they are leaving no stone unturned.

Yes, I agree getting the whole caucus out is quite exceptional, but remember that they entire caucus was in the area for their end of summer caucus retreat. It's impressive, but they were all going to be there anyway, so they are just making good use of their extra time.
I admire the NDP for that.
Mulcair was one of the few popular provincial Liberal ministers in Quebec.
If he can win here, it will be a great victory for the NDP.

It might not surprise you that I allowed for that snarky comeback ;) The truth however, even in the NDP had 100 MP's, it would have been the same scene, since they were all strategically gathered in Montreal for the caucus meeting. The goal was buzz, mission accomplished. You have to admit, the NDP has done a fantastic job making sure nobody can ignore, or take them for granted, in this by-election. Shrewd stuff, partisanship aside.
The NDP correctly realize that this may be the best opportunity in the world to kick Dion and the Liberals in the balls should they win, and give them credibility when telling Canadians they are the best option on the left to keep the Conservatives in check.
The stakes are high for Jack as well.

If I were Layton, I'd watch my back when it comes to Mulcair - leadership goodbye for Layton? Mulcair has the potential to be their leader it would seem to me.
