Lighten Up

Proving once again that Conservatives have no sense of humor:
Stephen Harper's Tories aren't laughing at an advertising pamphlet that pokes fun at them. In fact, the flyer from high-end men's retail chain Harry Rosen has the prime minister's people downright miffed.

The postcard-style handout makes reference to how the government mistakenly faxed its environmental plan to the opposition before releasing it publicly. The flyer features a picture of the prime minister and Liberal Leader Stephane Dion.
Harper asks his opponent if he's heard about Harry's Private Sale - which offers regular customers up to 33 per cent off on suits, jackets and trousers through Sunday.

Dion replies: "Yes, you guys faxed us the memo by accident."

That joke earned a stern response from the Conservatives.

"It's pretty tasteless," a government official said of the ad. "Harry Rosen's is over priced and we would never shop there. . . It's completely overrated. . . Conservatives would probably never shop there anyway."

What is wrong with these people? Why would the PMO even bother responding to an obscure ad campaign? Touchy, paranoid, thin skinned- I thought Liberals where whiny?

I'm not sure why they would respond, but I know where I'll be buying my next suit!

What the hell?

Let me guess; they buy their coffee at Tim's and their suits at Moore's, right?

Harper ain't wearing no $200 off the rack suits. Those are tailored to fit his pompous ass. He might not buy his suits at Rosen's, but he isn't buying them at Tip Top Tailors, either.

What a bunch of pretentious phonies.

Clever ad. It's hilarious that they would take offence.

Now, I think you'd have to really be up on your politics to "get it", but it does tell me that people are paying attention to what is going on. That's a good thing.

I wonder who the ad firm is? They'll no doubt be painted as shills for the lib's, lol.

They're obviously feeling very insecure these days - otherwise they could joke back.

They must have special tailors - I mean, really, have you noticed the number of very obese men in the Conservative caucus - Larry Miller, Dean del Mastro, James Moore, Jason Kenney and there are more.

It's sad.

Is there a blogging rule that says I can't post the same comment on two different blogs, hope not ....

"Now, this is clever advertising - and a stroke of (perhaps predicable) good luck as, if the Cons. had not made a fuss about it, it would not have made the press and the blogs, and who knows what else by now.

There are people who had never heard of "Harry Rosen" shops before who, will look for them the next time they are out-and-about in a shopping area.

Very clever ad. + hilarious reaction from Cons. = LOL "

I'd love to know who the "government official" was. Probably the same guy who approved all those "tasteless" attack ads.
Hilarious. Gotta luv it!

I'm guessing it's the same guy who does the Kyoto dog blog, because clearly that person has no sense of humor.

so humour at the expense of liberals (if you are a liberal yourself) is unfunny, but humour at the expense of conservatives (if you are a liberal) is hilarious.

Similarily, humour at the expense of liberals (if you are conservative) is hilarious but humour at the expense of conservatives (if you are a conservative) is unfunny.

wow. shocking.

I laugh my ass off when Mercer carves the Liberals, because it's funny. That website is an objective DUD, unless you are a blind partisan. It isn't funny- juvenile and silly yes, humor, not so much.

tori...Steve said the word that you don't seem to get...juvenile.

Steve, I linked to Mercer's latest. I think it is brilliant.

Somewhere, Harry Rosen is laughing his ass off. What nit said something like a conservative wouldn't shop there anyway? what a maroon!

What a pratfall for Canada's New Government. They just never know when to let up on the smears, even for their own good.

steve,

i think mercer is funny too and im a conservative.

im just pointing out that generally when the joke is on you, it can be hard to laugh along. And it goes for both sides.

There might be some truth to your comment on the broader point, but I don't think it applies to that website. It's just bbaaaadddd.
