Not that we need any more evidence the Conservatives have NO intention of doing ANYTHING on the climate change file, but today's development really does highlight these frauds that run our country.

If you go back to every climate conference, meeting, international discussion, since the Conservatives have taken office, they have hidden behind the "big emitter" arguments when justifying their own lack of commitment. Supporters of the Conservatives have chimed in as well, with these empirical arguments, why Kyoto is practically useless without the participation of countries like China, other emerging economies. This line of defense to deflect Conservative indifference on the file has been quite effective.

Suddenly, China has given signals that is perhaps willing to enter into BINDING agreements, a major BREAKTHROUGH by any measure:
On the weekend, China’s top negotiator signalled his country – now the world’s largest emitter – would accept binding commitments in a treaty after 2020, so long as developed countries renew their pledges under Kyoto.

The European Union is pushing for a compromise that would see current Kyoto participants accept a second round of emission-reduction targets, while the major emerging countries agree to negotiate their own binding commitments for the post-2020 period.

Asked whether Canada would reconsider its Kyoto position in the light of developments at the United Nations talks in South Africa, Mr. Kent offered a terse: “No.”

So, Canada's argument- which Moore is still bizarrely using in Parliament today- is that only a small percentage of nations are under the Kyoto umbrella, rendering it impotent in tackling the problem of carbon emissions. EXCEPT, now we have the big emitter- the country the Conservatives have CITED for years to deflect criticism- saying they might be ready for binding targets within a Kyoto-like Protocol. IF, the Conservatives were previously genuine, they would be JUMPING ALL OVER this development, but instead we get an unbending rejection, now based on flawed and dated logic.

Exposed AGAIN, and while the domestic consumption will be shrouded in wave after wave of pungent Conservative bullshit, our international partners will once again look at Canada with disgust and surprise.

What makes me cry as a human being is CPC haven't suggested an alternative. S.Dion had a good $5B/yr (after tax cuts) taken away from caron emittors. Harper has only $150M (yr?) in R+D. He protected land but it was only mildly carbon intensive forests and didn't address even future wildfire mitigation AFAIK. Thinking about industry petro conglomerates (companies that have have conventional oil, coal and tar and natural gas); the oil industry in USA's argument against diversification is that they tried it in the 1970s and it failed, with copper mines. Meanwhile have diversified into other carbon sources. What really happened is the profit cycles synched up so losing years could be blamed on economy. Their profits are destroying our species and any actor who bolsters their profits is evil to humanity (maybe heaven is a RW shithole, in that case they are rational).

Dion had a the home reno bank earlier and bigger than S.Harper. It would've helped our GDP and help pay down debt quicker. Maybe renewing the wind subsidy. Both would've been smart timing in retrospect, given cheap copper prices at present.
I think these fundie Christians, if you don't steal enough chips or whatever, to gain the respect of their cult: the goal of Christianity is to help the poor, not bring about Revelations. Revelations could be trillions of years from now. It doesn't have to be this century.

Conservatives -- you're busted!.... but this isn't a surprise.

Sad to see that China's willing to do something about climate change, but Canada isn't.

Harper has only ever had one job in his life, working for Big Oil, he still has that job.

Also depressing to consider the amount of money the government was willing to give to the finacial industry, and how little they'll throw to the environment.

In other news, Iran has confirmed yet again that they are not developing nuclear weapons. Their R&D facilities are only for peaceful energy projects.

Using what a dictatorship Chinese government says to tar a democratically elected western government is hilarious (In the pathetic kind of way).

Argue the Conservative's action/inaction on the climate change file but leave the empty promises of the murderous Chinese thugocracy out of it. They would love their western competitors to shovel money into an ineffective wealth transfer scheme.

Gawd you sound like an idiot.

...the NDP in 2008 had pledged Cap and trade revenues to R+D. Was a bog $8B/yr pledge but could've been redirected as a renewable generation or infrastructure or capital subsidy. Or broaden R+D sectors. CPC just announced a very minor fraction of NDP funding. Now Conservatives are getting scientifically stupider and stupider.

Yet we trip all over ourselves to buy their cheapy-cheap manufactured goods. Calling Frunger a mere "idiot" is being overly kind.

Gawd, he is definitely an idiot.

A Con Idiot so what else is new?
It appears that they are all made from the same DNA. Even a 6 year old child would recognize that

Harper has trained them well.
