Why The Conservatives Flip Flopped On The Anthem

This pretty much sums up why the Conservatives ditched the revised anthem proposal:
The highest level of opposition to the proposed change to the national anthem was recorded in Alberta (82%).

My initial comment that the idea was turning into an "unmitigated disaster" for the government:
75% of English-speaking Canadians oppose changing the line that reads "True patriot love in all thy sons command" to "True patriot love thou dost in us command."

Nice one chess master. Renaming Calgary International Airport to "Trudeau Rocked" International would have garnered more popular support.

So their trial balloon went over like a lead balloon.

The Conservatives are really beginning to lose it are they not?

This further proves that these guys cannot ad lib. They have no problem implementing a plan but when that plan goes off the rails they make the Keystone Kops look good.

They are looking more and more like a government that has no idea how to get out from under the bus that has just hit them. They are scambling desperately to find something, anything that they can use as a lifeline.

So far they have failed miserably.

Guess they didn't really do too much consulting with Canadians during that recalibration period.

Somebody in the PMO said this idea was an attempt to win favor from women, as well as the developing world women and children crap. In the span of 24 hours, they've backtracked on this idea and cutback on foreign aid, exposing themselves as nothing more than opportunistic frauds.

I didn't think it humanely possible for that many Albertans to reject anything these guys did. Wow.

One has to wonder if there were any women in their consultation process. Actually, I think there were no Canadians in their group...probably spent most of their time at a ranch in Texas.

Now, to dash off a tv or radio spot ad that starts off: "Stephen Harper wanted to change our anthem, but not before shutting down parliament..."

Harper misread the public on this one.
What I noticed was that Ignatieff misread the public as well. Ignatieff had a golden opportunity to oppose it from the get go. He was mute. Opportunity lost.
