You've Got To Be Kidding

Leave it to the Conservatives, to turn a crisis into partisan opportunity. This idea is beyond the pale:
Ottawa considers ad boost to help broadcasters

Ottawa has a new option on the table for helping local TV stations make it through the recession: buy more government ads.

The idea, which is under discussion at the cabinet's powerful committee on priorities and planning, is seen as a way to replace private advertising revenue that has fled since the onset of the financial crisis, a source told The Globe and Mail.

“In the short term, the most efficient way to get money out to broadcasters might be through advertising, because that's where the initial loss was,” said the source.

“That's where things have gone.”

What better way to aid an ailing industry, than government propaganda that helps Conservative fortunes? Just imagine, Canadians bombarded with government ads, all under the guise of "getting things done". Obnoxious.

Just how long would that have to go on for? Especially since many don't expect these ad revenues ever going back up to where they were.

Let me get this right. The Canadian public is going to be raked for tax dollars to air Conservative advertising so we can bail out the companies who exercise a monopoly on public property, the Canadian airwaves? If these guys don't want those airwave licenses, maybe we should first find out who else would be interested? I'll bet there'd be enough takers.

Yep, that's about it. Nice, isn't it?

Oh and don't forget that these ad buys will be on Conservative friendly private networks.

It's appalling the audacity of this transparent move.

Plus they get to say they never loaned the Aspers money and didn't loan the CBC money, you see how this plays out?

Hey, did you know they're changing the name of Parliament Hill to KREMLIN HILL?

As our Parliament is ceasing to act as a true parliament these days a more appropriate name change would be to 'Reichstag Hill'.

Apparently the only thing that was done wrong in the sponsorship scandal is that the taxpayer money handed out for advertising was given to Liberal supporters.
