What Others Are Saying

While Lisa Raitt questions Leona Aglukkaq's competence, it's interesting to note what people with a partisan slant have to say about the Minister and her abilities:

But rather than earning scorn from her political opponents for ducking for cover, Aglukkaq is receiving praise.

"I think she's done a terrific job," said Carolyn Bennett, the Liberal health critic and herself a doctor.

"Politics is politics and public health is public health. I'm really impressed that she knows where that line is."

"For a rookie minister, she's on top of this file and she's responded very effectively," said NDP Health Critic Wasylycia-Leis. "She's probably one of the better rookie MPs in the House."

Pretty sad, when your political opponents can demonstrate the ability to offer a fair judgement, while a Conservative colleague and her sidekick talk behind her back.

The comment that I found particularly telling from Raitt was this: "She's such a capable woman, but it's hard for her to come out of a co-operative government into this rough-and-tumble."

Stevie's RepubliCons have redefined rough-and-tumble, blood sport competition as the norm for federal politics.

Someone who has worked in a co-operative government setting is viewed as a liability.

It appears that Steve preaches Leona Aglukkaq, but operates John Baird.

I think Leona does fine for a politician in the file, but who is kidding who, she misses stuff all the time on the public health front.

Like all politicians--they listen to the bureaucrats, who in the case of health have purposely been giving inaccurate and biased info for at least the last twenty years. Health has been a mess for years under both parties. Someone needs to go in with a wrecking crew and deal with it.

Until then, we're going to continue having this problem.

I agree with deBeauxOx completely. To me the most interesting thing is her comments about Aglukkaq and the other party member's private bill.

In both cases, Raitt's complaint is basically that her compatriots aren't self-centered, blood-thirsty kool-aid drinkers like herself. No wonder she's part of King Stephen's inner circle. She's as nasty and petty as he is.

Actually governing just isn't as sexy as being a total ass, shirking real responsibility while claiming credit whenever you get the chance. Oh, and spending oodles of money, which was the other telling moment getting no press. "Just throw money at it" is apparently the rule of the day. Can you imagine if a Liberal was caught saying that? No wonder the great chess-master can't seem to find the bottom of the deficit. They're just shoveling money to their pet causes in secret binders instead of the actual stimulus they claim to support in public.

These clowns need flushed. I think it's time to pull the plug. Ignatieff should do it, and if the NDP and Bloc end up backing the government, so be it. I'd count that as a win as well.

I agree, it's a pretty clear statement on the nature of this government.

I wonder if this issue adds anything to the pull the plug argument. One thing is clear, the rationale for an election is broadening and it all revolves around the idea of competence.

Hmmm....is Raitt jealous of her because she's respected and face it, cuter, sexier and dresses better.

Hey, Raitt, you don't have to be a lady ball-breaker to do a good job.

I guess when it comes to health a lives Raitt is "putting on the RITZ". It's sexy and funny when people are sick and some die.

Raitt doesn't even offer an apology in Parliament. These people are simply amazing.

Steve, in Harper’s mind an apology is a synonym for defeat and/or weakness. But I’m sure you know this.
