People love to criticize the CBC, but what I find redeeming about our national network is the way in which it brings Canadians together. The recent contest to come up with the "Seven Wonders Of Canada" has been a wonderful exercise in national pride. After tens of thousands of ideas, the CBC has come up with the top 50 nominees. You can go to the CBC website to
vote.
Here are my seven picks, in no particular order:
The Canadian Rockies
The Northern Lights
The Cathedral Grove
Gros Morne National Park
The Canoe
Drumheller
Cabot Trail
The only curious entry, Wreck Beach in Vancouver. I guess it is a wonder that you can buy primo pot from a naked guy :)

I vote for a # 8.....
The NHL's Ottawa Senators hockey team.
Won't work, though. For the CBC, only the Maple Leafs exist. :)
GO SENS !
It's too bad this isn't divided into "natural" wonders and "man-made" wonders.
Surely, as the world's tallest free-standing structure the CN Tower is a wonder. I like the Rideau Canal, the canoe, the Confederation Bridge, and the Montreal bagel too.
But how do those compete with the Northern Lights, Niagra Falls, the Bay of Fundy, the Rockies, Cathedral Grove, Drumheller the NorthWest Passage, and other natural wonders??? It hardly seems fair!
Also, Steve, no NIAGRA FALLS???
WTF?
LK
They should break it down.
I find the Falls kind of tacky, to be frank. It's hard to focus on the natural splender with all the distractions and people IMHO.
I voted for
Saugeen Shores, Sunset. It is different, I was born there and can tell you, that is a fact...... beautiful!

I've seen a few of those, and they are spectacular :)
I get what you're saying about the Falls Steve, I just figure we shouldn't hold the "tackiness" of Niagra Falls the town against the Falls themselves. I've also always figured the Falls were just SO magnificent that nothing we stupid humans could do would ever REALLY effect their majesty.
I still think they're a no-brainer for a seven wonders of Canada list, but point taken.

I remember reading something about the first nations, and their relationship to the Falls. There was an animated picture that showed the Falls prior to settlement. The last time I went there, I tried hard to remember that image, and it helped me appreciate it.
My seven wonders of Canada
1 - Our History
2 - Our People
3 - Our Passion
4 - Our Courage
5 - Our Freedom
6 - Our Nature
7 - Our Future
#6 can cover all the natural geographic nominations and speaks to our diverse personality as well.
