Cut To The Chase

Interesting piece, with rabid Conservatives raising the spectre of a coalition, Ignatieff trying to "rewrite history".

In the back and forth, I'm reminded of one simple fact that pierces the linguistic haze:

IF IGNATIEFF WANTED A COALITION, HE WOULD ALREADY BE PRIME MINISTER.

Couldn't have been closer when you think about it. Sitting right there, in his power hungry, ambitious lap, and yet...

Yes history, a useful and telling tool.

Those Conservatives? have gone absolutely mad..it is getting worse every day. Are they going to lie and attack Ignatieff..is this their new tactic, instead of the ten percenters?

"Are they going to lie and attack Ignatieff"

What else do they have really? Their record?

I'm just not that terribly worried about this coalition attack line anymore, and I was a few months ago. It's outdated think here, Cons remember those polls, they have nothing else, so it's going to be fear and division.

Perhaps I meant they are attacking Michael in a different way, maybe instead of the ten percenters ?

In every way possible :)

I hope you are right about the coalition threat not being a useful attack. It seems pretty clear to me that both the Conservatives and NDP are hoping to use this and most voters do not follow politics closely. They woke up with the coalition threat and they'll wake up with the election. Not clear this will be history for them and attacks where the NDP and Conservatives reinforce each other are always tricky for the Liberals. I hope the Liberals have a good plan.

The coalition talk is also falling on the ears of a majority of Canadians for whom the Conservatives are their LAST choice. The majority of Canadians have said over and over and over again that we do not like or trust Stephen Harper. And Yes, as you said, history is a very good rebuttal, if Iggy wanted to be PM the coalition route he already would be PM. Harper is such a vile little man, the master of malice, the servant.

NDP blogger - Peterborough Politics has a blog about a pathetic and disgusting 10 percenter about Charlie Angus. I wonder, did this blogger complain when disgusting 10 percenters were being sent around about the Libs? I don't think so, but now that they are getting a taste of Harper's strategy they don't like, not that I blame them.

But, on principle, shouldn't all parties show their disgust no matter which party is being attacked so viciously?

Scott Diatribe talks about this in his blog today.

I've never, ever been so disgusted with politics as I've been since Harper's been around.

RuralSandi... I'm right here, and if you really wanted an answer to that question, you would have asked it over at my blog.

My issue with the 10 percenter is not about the fact that the Conservatives take aim at Mr. Angus or a New Democrat, because that's surely not the first time that it's happened. It's that they tried to use a community that hasn't had a proper school for 30 years as a way of doing it. A community that the Conservatives have continually kicked while down. And to boot, the Conservatives use lines that try to make the people of Attawapiskat feeling guilty for daring to want the same thing as an "average" Canadian would have. That has nothing to do with who represent the area; that has to do with my concern for the people of Attawapiskat. It wouldn't matter if it was a New Democrat, Liberal or even a Conservative representing that area. If you don't believe me, fine but that's the truth.
