Move Over Duff

Mike Duffy's status as chief Conservative HACK in the Senate might be in danger.

A real class act.

"But Conservatives are bracing themselves for a few days of rocky headlines with talking points that include telling reporters that if Senator David Smith, who was former prime minister Jean Chretien's campaign mastermind, deserves a Senate seat, so too does Finley for playing the same role for Harper in his election campaigns."

And what did the conservatives say about these type of patronage appointments again?

Oh yeah...

Look, Finley is an improvement over Brazeau and Duffy. Wouldn't be surprised if Carolyn Stewart-Olsen got the nod too.

I was going to post an angry reply but then I came to my senses and realized that the Senate MUST BE stacked by Liberal hacks only.

My bad.

Should have read the article first -- Carolyn and Don Plett are both in. I guess the only thing remaining is Harper appointing himself to the Senate.

PK, sigh. The way it used to work was Liberals appoint Liberals, Conservatives kvetch. Then Conservatives appoint Conservatives, and Liberals kvetch. It was like the changing of the seasons.

But then, from the Western plains atop a gallant white steed, did Stephen Harper emerge. Never again! he pledged. We won't play those games! On merit, we shall appoint! Refoooorm!

And then into office, rode Harper, and, well, you know the rest.

So, the difference, you see, is that we Liberals never pretended to be holier than thou and righteous. You Conservatives did. And so that's why we chortle.

Kid

You should be angry, you guys have become what you so despised. Wear it well hypocrites, and rationalize all day long. Amusing.

Harper tried to appoint on merit. He appointed the former Premier of the NWT to the CBC board of directors.

Then, tada, the same guy is now going to be running for the Liberals.

So, ask me, why would anyone appoint people who don't agree with you?

Did it every dawn on you people that he's running for the Liberals now because he saw first hand what a unseemly bunch the Cons are? Kind of like our new candidate in B.C, that former PC fella that stood up against special interests?

Don't get mad when people NOTICE.

Do you mean the former head of the Rupert Terminals in BC who was fired for cause?

The headlines SAY he was a conservative because that made a better story. However, if you really read all of the story he said he was not really political and many years ago he did some fundraising for the Mulroney Progressive Conservatives.

This guy has NEVER been a Harper Conservative - but the headline writer thought it was a cool thing to pretend that conservatives are now all lined up to run for the Liberals.

That's just sad.

"Harper tried to appoint on merit."

Anyone who appoints Mike Duffy is NOT appointing on merit.

Hey, cherry picking appointments is fun!

Hey Marie, when Harper tried to select a few CON faithful from outside his sticky circle, like Maynard and Page, they took their duties too seriously and actually did their job. To get what he wants in the senate he's picking people who don't care to represent real people, but monkey Harper's spectacularly barren meme. Even Martin appointed conservative and a socialist.
As Steve said, you wear it well.

How about if we just turn the Senate into a restaurant? The ambiance is pretty nice already. All they would have to do is replace the desks with tables.

Anyone know how long Finley's been in Canada - is he just visiting?

The man is not a healthy looking man at all - is he a heavy drinker - he sure has that look.

Finley:

He has also been involved with the Scottish National Party and the former Canadian Reform and Alliance parties (which were eventually dissolved into the current Conservative Party).

The Scottish National Party (SNP) (Scottish Gaelic: PĂ rtaidh NĂ iseanta na h-Alba; Scots: Scottis Naitional Pairtie) is a centre-left political party which campaigns for Scottish independence.[1] In the last few decades, the SNP has normally polled the second highest number of votes for a political party in Scotland. However, the 2009 European Election saw the party top the poll with almost 100,000 votes more than the Scottish Labour Party. As a result of the 2007 elections, it is the largest party in the Scottish Parliament, and is running a minority administration in the Scottish Government.

...just curious where Finley's loyalties lie.

Marie obviously forgets that Paul Martin appointed non Liberals to the Senate. Wow her hypocrisy is blinding even out here in Vancouver.
