Poor Pierre

Ottawa Citizen column asks "Is Poilievre fit to hold public office?". Good question:

His party, and voters in Nepean-Carleton, should be asking if he's fit to hold public office. As a constituent, I would say no....

His efforts have not gone unnoticed on the Hill. A survey of political staffers by the publication The Hill Times awarded Poilievre top spot as the biggest gossip on the Hill and he tied for first as the biggest self-promoter.

In all, Poilievre's record ought to make Nepean-Carleton voters ashamed. The message from his residential schools comments and his shot about sex changes is that people in his riding are a bunch of red-neck bigots who have to be pandered to. Next election, let's show him that he's wrong.

Please do.

On the theme of self-promotion, I thought I would look at the long list of accomplishments. On Pierre's website he brags:
It also reminded me of the enormous achievements we have had together. Here are some examples of what we have accomplished:

Enormous achievements? I didn't realize attending local events, flipping burgers amounted to enormity, but it's the first thing on his scant list:
Personally attended 750 community events with many of you

Wow, clearly making the country better for all of us, or furthering your political career as the case may be.

I hope the Liberals target Pierre's riding, and rightfully paint him as the uber-conservative, all that's wrong with this government, sort of politician. Columns like the above suggest Pierre might not have an easy ride moving forward.

But this is our riding. We happen to like him.

Because Pierre speaks his mind, he should not be re-elected?.

You got to grow up buddy.

What Pierre said is not uncommon to people who actually share their opinion.

Indians get too much money, do nothing with it, smoke dope and rape their kids, and trannys should not get a dime for sex changes.

What is so hard for you left wing dummies to understand.

No johnathon, he shouldn't be elected because he's a bigot, like yourself.

God this group of neanderthals is frightening.

"You got to grow up buddy."

LOL, judging by your comments, your intellect suggests you're still in diapers.

Go back under your rock, stupid creton.

We live in hope.

Here's his Lib opponent in the next election. Quite the contrast wouldn't you say?

Steve V said...

knb

Thanks for that, I was wondering who his opponent will be.

Karen said...

You're welcome Steve.

Wouldn't you love to see them debate?

I wonder if we'll see Poilievre leave politics, period? I think he had said he'd only go 2 terms at some point.

johnathon:

There is speaking your mind and then there is being hateful.

Speaking your mind: The Federal and Provincial governments along with the First Nations leadership have to devise a strategy to reverse the poverty and hopelessness experienced by many of the First Nations people in this country.

That will require an honest assessment of what programs are working and what programs are not and then allocating the available funds to those that work.

The goal should not be "value for money". It should be mitigating and resolving the problems experienced by the First Nations people. Problems I might add that are the result of the paternalistic approach governments in Canada have been taking towards the First Nations since before Confederation.

Being hateful: Canadians should demand accountability for the compensation the government will give them for Residential schools. After all, the purpose of those schools was to destroy a people and their failure to do so should not stop Canadians from demanding value for those funds.

Oh yes and then there is this: "Indians get too much money, do nothing with it, smoke dope and rape their kids..."

You are a piece of work johnathon and the poster child to the fact the human species has a long way to go before it can truly call itself enlightened.

With regard to Pierre I would have to agree with redneck bigot.

I live in Nepean and I receive that city's weekly community newspaper and they still seem to like this guy, and John Baird as well.

Then again I speak to some of my neighbours and they are not impressed with either of them.

I am hoping my neighbours are more indicative of the attitudes in Nepean than what is printed in the community newspaper but I am not holding my breath.

So although I do not believe they will have an easy time of it I would not be surprised if both of them retained their seats in the next election. *Sigh*

Angelo Persichilli's article in today's Toronto Sun talks about "Too much negativity on the hill" - he makes some good points which all parties should heed. He mentions the Liberals in particular for there negatism.

He shouldn't venture to the Liberal Blogs which are absolutely toxic. It's all negative all the time, the topic of choice being the awful conservatives. (This post being a case in point.)Unfortunately the negative tendency of the Liberals is exacerbated by thhe vaccum created by Dion's absent leadership.

Liberals are frustrated and they're lashing out. Thank God for the summer. Some friendly advice, switch off politics for a couple of months and blog on something more positive.

Actually harold, Steve points to an article by Randall Denley, a columnist who has no time for the Liberals and who usually has nothing but good things to say about the Conservatives.

The fact that he is so "negative" about PP is rather significant.

So it is not the Liberals who are being negative in this case it is the folks who actually support your government who are being negative. That should give all Conservatives a warm, fuzzy feeling all over if you ask me.

However, I agree with you up to a point. The Liberals should be looking forward to the summer where we will see the Conservatives trying desperately to recover from Bernier, Cadman, In-and-Out, RCMP Raids on Conservative Party Headquarters, Mulroney/Schrieber, Linda Keen, Brodie's excursion into the Democratic Primaries, and PP's most recent statements.

Add to that the Liberals will be looking forward to a summer where the topic of conversation will be their tax shifting plan.

So harold, I wish you and the Conservatives a great summer. It should be fun.

Steve V said...

Actually harold, if you ask any journalist on the hill, they've never seen a more negative environment in Ottawa. Gee, who exactly is in charge at the moment... Give me a rest, a Con complaining about negativity is like an Exxon exec complaining about the cost to fill up his car.

The Liberals too negative, what planet are some of you koolaid drinkers on. Seriously.

Why would Liberals want to silence Pierre? He is the gift that keeps on giving. Let the man speak! Let his followers emerge from the darkest corners of the Conservative party that Stephen Harper trys so hard to silence.

Pierre is safe in this riding. With a little help from Jack Layton's crew he'll coast.

"Why would Liberals want to silence Pierre? He is the gift that keeps on giving."

Blues, that was my feeling, the moment Harper decided to put Pierre on the frontlines. How anyone could conclude that Pierre is what a stagnant party needs is beyond me. That said, I'd love to see him turfed, he brings down the discourse.

Blues Clair said...

Agreed Steve V,

But in the 2008/09 federal election the Liberals are going to need all the Randy White and Pierre Poilievre moments they can hope for.

Steve V said...

I have a feeling Pierre will be hidden away come an election.

Ottlib - you have to pay attention to who owns your community paper - Sun Media (I live in rural Ontario) now owns our community paper - the editorials have changed - slowly moving more to the right and articles, of course, from Sun journalists.

WesternGrit said...

The "media" needs to have some limits to its partisanship. Not talking about censorship, but about promoting independent thought. They can say whatever they feel like, but we need to put an end to media oligopolies. These huge media concerns will be the end of civilization - and I'm not being "over the top" with that comment. The hates and fears that common citizens feel are fomented by the radio talk shows they hear on the way to work, the TV news they watch at night, and the daily newspaper they read on their coffee breaks... at the coffee shop that is owned by another large US conglomerate, which has cross-promotions in-store with the media chains (for "in store" entertainment - Shaw DMX music, TV from Rogers/Shaw/Bell, CDs for sale).

We're not going to get an accurate depiction of "Little Pee Pee" Pierre until there is REAL JOURNALISM in this country. Unfortunately, without the protections for Canadian content, and strong anti-monopoly laws, we're seeing the US-style deterioration of a truly free media. Frightening indeed. Why is it that so many of us resort to blogs and blogging for our info?

Steve V said...

Well said grit. I really worried about the direction of our media, it seems the notion of fair and balanced is being replaced by agenda driven media, that is entirely political in nature. Media is now part of ideology, which is quite a departure from past practice.

I was watching a biography of Tim Russert, and I must confess I really wasn't aware of his past ties to prominent Democrats. Russert was tough on everybody, you never had any sense of his own political leanings, because he understood that to be a good journalist you have to be impartial. That's the standard journalism should aspire too, wherein you understand you have a duty to present a fair picture, and let voters decide what they support or believe. Sadly, you see that ideal eroding now, which doesn't bode well for the future.

I'm starting to see the news media as an extension of the parties, and in the end, I think blogs only real relevance will be to act as a check on reporting. Something needs to keep the media accountable, they can no longer be trusted, maybe that is where blogs will find their voice.

Look no further than Keith Olbermann at MSNBC. The liberal-left used to be covert about it. Now we have overt displays of sneering condescesion from the left. Tell us how you really feel Keith!

When Russert graced Olbermann's show with his presence, he probably felt like taking a shower afterwards.

Yep, both LPC and CPC have been doing a great job in reversing poverty for FN people.

Obermann - well, the right has O'Reilly/FOX. Now there's a rational person for you.

sigh.........

You will not get any argument from me regarding the failure of successive governments to reduce the poverty and hopelessness of FN people.

On QP today, they said that the next day PP had the look of a puppy who had peed on the carpet, had been beaten hard by his master, but did not know what for.

Yikes. They were talking about PP, MP, PS.

How do you recover from that? They seemed to say Pierre's career advancement path is essentially finished.

I'd characterize his apology in the House in the same way.

I'm in his riding and a member of the conservative party. I have launched the "Ban pierre" site which can be viewed at http://web.me.com/banpierre/Site/Welcome.html

Pierre will not do so good in this election, i think.
