On one level, you could frustrated with Conservative MP Art Hanger, for blocking the Cadman probe. But, when you stop to think about it, Hanger's schoolyard antics just add oxygen to a story with no new developments. The biggest risk, the media would become bored, Cadman would fade to the background. I honestly believe the media thinks something is afoot, but the attention span is lacking, you need fresh tidbits to maintain the storyline.
The Liberals have done a good job keeping the story alive, Dryden's question in QP yesterday, LeBlanc this morning. But, the Hanger stonewall has peaked everyone's interest, and the saga looks to continue, guaranteeing a few more cycles of coverage.
Thank-you Art Hanger, you've made the frontpage:

Let's hope Hanger walks out a couple more times.

I believe this should be investigated, but I also agree this is not the place to do it. This should be before the Ethics committee and if the NDP were at all honourable it would be.
That said, I take your point here Steve. Hanger's antics are definately keeping this story going. It is pretty clear the cons are very afraid of this topic hitting any committee - even one that has to stretch its mandate to have it heard.
Ah-yes, "Cadman-gate" - the gift that just keeps on giving...You know, this scandal got saturation publicity in the Vancouver media and the Liberals went to great lengths to make the biggest deal possible about it there - then we had a federal byelection in Vancouver Quadra right splat in the middle of the Cadman story being front page news - and Liberal support collapsed!!
There has to be a moral in that somewhere.
Yes anon- further exploring this issue would probably hurt the liberals. That must be why Hanger does not want to have this investigated.
Yes, clearly, putting up roadblocks, burying all the principles deep within the earth's mantle, for fear they speak, definitely says this hurts the Liberals.
You guys are a hoot, get some talking points would ya.
I'm not saying that the Cadman "affair" shouldn't be fully investigated. I think it should. I'm just pointing out that this scandal does not appear to have paid any electoral dividends at all to the Liberals. No where did this scandal get more saturation than in Vancouver - and yet in a byelection in Vancouver riding at the height of the scandal - Liberal support collapsed!
By all means investigate the Cadman affair for its own sake - but if the Liberals think this issue is going to turn around their bleak political fortunes - think again. The evidence shows that the voters simply don't care.
anon - personally I could care less how this affects the liberals. It is exposing the conservatives for the corrupt liars they are that I am interested in - and apparently Hanger is interested in keeping the truth under wraps.
anon
I don't think you can extrapolate that from what happened in Quadra, it wasn't "the" issue at all. If this issue does get some public airing, then it could have an impact, which is not to say the Liberals can count on it to get back into power.
