"These Guys Can't Even Tell The Difference Between Right And Wrong"

This ad brought to you, while the Conservatives were "cheating". In fact, you may have seen this ad, as a direct result of the "cheating". The kicker, they wanted YOU to pay for it. Right and wrong?

Wow... that ad looks more like satire today than the ad it was meant to be back then. Just disgusting.

The "everybody does this" lame defence:

"To my knowledge, there has been nothing equivalent to this,” said John Courtney, a political scientist at the University of Saskatchewan's Diefenbaker Canada Centre and an expert on Canada's electoral system.

“There's always little nickel and dime stuff in every election, but this is not nickel and dime ... those are major sums, at least by Canadian standards.”

“There's nothing that I'm aware of of this scale involving a major party,” added Aaron Freeman, co-author of The Laws of Government: The Legal Foundations of Canadian Democracy."

Yet they continue to try and smear EC and EC's motives. AND who appointed the new head of EC? And the new commish of elections?
Maybe they are playing chess, with the goal to implode Canadians' trust of EC to pieces so that they can just run amok.
Unfortunately, I know Bugs Bunny. You, Stephen Harper, are no Bugs Bunny.
Kill The Wabbitt!

Personally, i'm tired of the "everybody does this" defense. I'm sick of hearing it, and frankly I hope that someone takes the old "Stevie Harper" approach to this and files a libel and/or defamation lawsuit against the Conservatives for defaming the good names of the parties that are clean and haven't done this stuff. By saying "everyone's doing this", he's trying to insinuate that everyone is guilty, which they aren't, and hey, he's being stupid enough to say it outside of the House. So lets try that "Just sue me" approach and see how Mr. Harper likes it.

The EC angle is the worst part of this, apart from the scandal itself. Trying to sully the reputation of an institution that is well respected abroad, nevermind within Canada, is despicable. Do they have any capacity, outside of their narrow self interest?

That's a twist I hadn't considered. From now on, we should ask ourselves "what would Harper do?"

BTW, I saw an expert on today that said, while this unlikely, if found guilty, the Conservative Party could lose its registration and all candidates involved would be prevented from running again.

Steve - Cherniak pointed that out months ago. To his credit he has been remarkably restrained about this whole thing.

Ehehehe. Wouldn't that be something. Anyway, let's have an election now, please - the destruction of the Conservative Party can happen afterwards if need be, but I look forward to Liberal/NDP/Green/Bloc ads featuring these same words from Harper juxtaposed with current goings-on.

I await this being used in a Liberal attack ad...

Not that I'll vote for any of the morons, but it will be amusing to see stammering Conservatives eating their own words.
