Hip

Every so often, I visit the Conservative website, to see the latest juvenile manifestation of anti-Dion postings. On a sidenote, for the first time I can remember, there are actually as many pictures of Harper on the website, as there are photos of Dion- strange.

The Conservatives traditionally do poorly with younger voters. When you see their "outreach" on the website, it explains a lot. Here is the banner, a call to arms for Canadian youth:

Who chooses this photo for the frontpage of your website? Somebody actually made the decision that the look on this kid's face conveys the appropriate message? Are the Conservatives trying to court the braindead, nobody's home vote? Stunned and young? Come, join our team.

How long before that guy's picture gets traced back to a porn site, I wonder?

Last I checked they couldn't care less about intelligence even in their candidates. So it wouldn't be the least bit surprising if they're perfectly happy to target the braindead for their rank and file.

Is that supposed to look like Napoleon Dynamite?

Sorry Steve about the deletes. I have been trying to link to someone but it is not working. I will try for the last time I hope it works this time.

Before criticizing the BT'S I think that you should be looking in your own backyard. You tell what you think about this person who makes light of 9/11 where we lost over 3.000 lives on that horrible day?

Right, do you really want to play that game, given who's on your blogroll? Besides, this is the Con site, what you folks choose to present to Canadians. His IQ is probably representative of the target audience. I'm just waiting for a headline "Dion is a poopy pants".

Steve I have no idea that this is a Con site. I saw it on the liblog. Funny how they allow things like this on. Talking about Dion I have seen a lot worse things said about Mr.Harper. I will give you an example here. For instance he has been called a dictator, people who call him a dictator have no idea what a dictator is. I know my grandparents lived under one so I know what I'm talking about. Also all the name calling that goes on about this government stupid,idiot,etc..etc...So someone criticize Mr.Dion boo hoo. Let me remind you that the BT's are not the only ones criticizing your leader Mr.Dion your own party is doing it also. So what does this say about your leader?

Funny, I didn't think this thread was talking about Dion.

I thought it was speaking to the ridiculous site that the Con's have and their techniques in attracting youth.

Silly me.

Well, at least they're consistent :) Dodge and weave.

Jurist, hope you don't mind, but this quote on your link is just too precious:

“Neither IQ level, nor political astuteness are prerequisites to be a candidate — just a citizen over 18 with a reasonable credit record, no serious crime sheet and a surname other than Riddell,” Finley wrote in a December e-mail to Ian Brodie, who now is chief of staff to Prime Minister Stephen Harper."

Silly me I thought you were talking about how Mr.Dion is being seen as on the BT's. Here is your own quote Steve.

"Every so often, I visit the Conservative website, to see the latest juvenile manifestation of anti-Dion postings. On a sidenote, for the first time I can remember, there are actually as many pictures of Harper on the website, as there are photos of Dion- strange."

Just typical, just typical. Oh well I guess I shouldn't be all that surprised. Have yourself a very happy Sunday. Ooops I'm now going to be criticized for saying happy Sunday;)

No, we were talking about the Con website, not the BT's. I guess the IQ thing applies to supporters too.

Didn't you realize the Cons have Attention Deficit Disorder? They can't stay on one topic - they can only ryhme off PM talking points.

"They can't stay on one topic - they can only ryhme off PM talking points."

Well, you see what happens everytime somebody is allowed to ad lib. In one way, you can understand the controlling, paranoid, directives from the top approach.

RuralSandi said...

Dictator: 1. a ruler with unrestricted authority, esp one who suppresses or succeeds a democratic government. "2. a person with supreme authority in any sphere" "3 a DOMINEERING person."

(from the Oxford dictionary)

He's dominineering and suppresses - that makes Harper a dictator.

Do you know which former foreign leader Harper has "read and mastered"? Explains A LOT actually.

Steve,

That guy looks pretty stunned. Perhaps it was suppose to be a Napolean Dynamite "look". Perhaps they are going for the Napolean vote.

..vote for Pedro!

Yes - it's "Stalin".

He also uses the Goebbels method of propoganda - repeat something over and over again until it's perceived as the truth.

I forgot to add in the definition of dictator, the following:

Dictatorial: 1. of or like a dictator. 2. "imperious; overbearing".

I saw that photo used with the slogan "Freak out your prof; join the Conservatives". I assumed the photo was supposed to look like someone on drugs who would freak out their prof, or parents.

I actually thought it was a rather clever ad campaign, although the underlying theme (become a conservative just because people will be surprised to learn you are one) is superficial. In other words, clever and funny, if you don't mind empty, meaningless politics.

Back on topic, I think that picture is the same one they used for the "Freak out your roommate - join the Conservatives" ad that they used to (still?) have. Except, that was supposed to be the picture of the freaked-out roommate, not the prospective Conservative; I'm not sure what idiot made the decision for it to be the banner photo to recruit youths to the party.

Haha, clf beat be to the punch.

"Freak out your prof; join the Conservatives".

That implies an inverse relationship between education and conservatism.

Steve,

Your too clever by half.

Actually the cons target market is liberals as this picture clearly shows.

Steve: No problem at all with your pointing out the quote - frankly I'm shocked the Cons have mostly received a free ride after it was made public.

"Actually the cons target market is liberals as this picture clearly shows."

I'm sure the CPC would like to target Liberal voters as this makes sense, but I don't see how this ad will grab Liberals.

Will Liberals identify with the young man who looks clueless? I don't think so. Will Liberals want to vote Conservative to freak someone out? I don't think so.

I think it is targetted at rebellious and immature youth (primarily young men). How else to explain being drawn to a political party to freak anyone out?

Steve V said...

Slightly off topic, but Nanos was on QP today, talking about Lukwski. Nanos said this could hurt the Cons with voters outside their base, make them less appealing to swing voters. The telling quote, Nanos said this issue really doesn't do any damage with Conservative core voters, which basically translates to an acknowledgement that bigotry is accepted practice. Nice base.

But of course "knucke dragger" is not bigotry because it is liberal.

Fife was just stating the obvious. If you're a knuckle dragger, you're a conservative, it seems almost pre-determined. That doesn't mean all conservatives are knuckle draggers, just that their part of your tent, that's where the overwhelming majority of the bigots go. Bigots exist, nobody disputes that, and they tend to vote Conservative. The right has always had this dance, and it isn't country specific. It's sort of why you need the tight leash and all, or like the Americans, you coddle them, take their money and then tell them to go away when there is an election, for fear that the ugly is centerstage.
